We did not build a fleet. We found one.

Taxic is a rural delivery platform built on the minibus taxi network that already runs through Vhembe. No new vehicles, no new routes — just the software that was missing.

Why we exist

Rural South Africa was written off as unservable. Not because there is no demand, and not because there is no transport — but because everyone kept trying to solve it with a delivery model designed for cities.

The observation

The logistics layer was always there

Every courier company that looked at Vhembe reached the same conclusion: the drops are too far apart, the addresses are not mapped, and the customers do not have cards. All three are true. All three killed the business case.

But a minibus taxi runs the same loop eight to fourteen times a day, past the same stops, with the same driver, often with space on board. The vehicle is already moving. The fuel is already bought. The route is already licensed and already known.

The thing rural delivery was missing was never the transport. It was a parcel system, a custody trail and a way to pay without a bank card — three software problems sitting on top of infrastructure that has been running for decades.

Principles

Four things we will not trade away

  • 01 Never route around the association We activate a route with the taxi association that holds it, or we do not activate it. Signing up drivers behind their association's back would be faster and would destroy the thing that makes this work.
  • 02 Never make the driver deviate Zero route deviation is not a feature we market, it is the constraint the whole economic model rests on. The moment a driver leaves the loop, the cost per drop stops working.
  • 03 Never lock out cash Card-only would be simpler to build and would exclude most of the people we are building for. Cash-in through local resellers is harder and it stays.
  • 04 Never publish a number we cannot show our working for Every rand figure on this site comes from one model. If a rate changes, it changes everywhere at once — not page by page.
Where we are

Honest about the stage

Ask us anything
Stage Pilot, pre-launch

The platform is built and the first routes are being activated with the local association. We are not pretending to be at scale.

Base Mutale, Vhembe

Limpopo. We work where we live rather than running the pilot remotely from a city.

Built for Weak signal

Offline-tolerant, low-data, Android 8 and up. Designed for the phones people actually carry here.
