Operator terms & conditions
The rules governing drivers, fleet owners, associations and merchants on the Taxic network — verification requirements, earnings splits, wallet rules and where liability sits when a parcel goes wrong.
The short version. Be licensed, stay on your route, scan at both ends, and keep the seal intact. You get 100% of the delivery fee plus 30% of our margin. If a parcel is lost while you are holding it, you cover it — capped at R500 or the wholesale cost, whichever is lower.
1. Scope
These terms apply to every transport operator, driver, fleet owner and merchant participating in the Taxic network, and form an agreement between that participant and Taxic. Customers are covered by separate in-app terms. Where a taxi association agreement governs route access, that agreement takes precedence on matters of route conduct.
2. Vehicle & operator compliance
To register a vehicle you must be an authorised member of a recognised taxi association for the route in question — for the pilot, the Vhembe / Mutale Taxi Association — and must satisfy provincial transport permit obligations. Specifically:
- Professional Driving Permit. A valid South African PrDP for passengers or goods, with no active safety suspension, maintained for as long as you carry parcels.
- Roadworthiness and cover. A current certificate of roadworthiness, public liability insurance, and an active provincial operating licence for the route.
- Route and region code. You must register under the correct regional route identifier (for example LIM-MUT-01). Codes are cross-referenced during onboarding and re-verified periodically.
- Ongoing accuracy. You must notify Taxic within seven days if any permit, licence or association membership lapses, is suspended or is withdrawn.
3. Route conduct
- Zero deviation. Deliveries must be completed without leaving your licensed route. The platform will not offer a job that would require deviation, and you may not accept off-platform arrangements that do.
- Stop window. Hold at a designated loop stop for one to two minutes. If the customer does not arrive, transfer the parcel to the nearest partner hub and record the transfer.
- Scanning. Scan at collection and release only against the customer's one-time PIN. An unscanned movement is treated as an unrecorded custody event.
- Packaging. Parcels travel in supplied branded packaging with the tamper seal intact. Do not open, repack or consolidate parcels.
- Prohibited goods. You may not carry anything illegal, hazardous, live, or requiring a licence to transport. Report any parcel you suspect breaches this rule instead of carrying it.
4. Earnings & commission
| Component | Rate | Paid by / to |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery fee | R5.00 base + R0.70/km, no cap | 100% to the driver |
| Catalogue markup | 8% of merchant base price | 30% driver / 70% platform |
| Merchant commission | 15% of merchant base price | 30% driver / 70% platform |
| Service fee | R2.50 per order | Platform |
| Association levy | 10% of platform net on the route | Paid from the platform share |
- Driver earnings on a R100 basket over 10 km are R18.90: the full R12.00 delivery fee plus 30% of the R23.00 combined markup and commission.
- The association levy is calculated on Taxic's net share and is never deducted from driver or merchant earnings.
- Earnings post to your Taxic wallet when custody closes at hand-over. There is no joining fee and no monthly platform charge for drivers.
- Rates may be varied per route or category by written notice, given before the change takes effect.
5. Merchant terms
- Merchants list their own base prices. Taxic's markup is applied on top and does not reduce the merchant's settlement.
- Settlement is base price less the 15% commission — R85.00 on a R100 order — paid to the merchant's wallet per order.
- Merchants must pack according to the packaging guidelines. Failures caused by inadequate packing remain the merchant's responsibility.
- Merchants must keep availability accurate and may set the shop closed at any time. Repeated failure to fulfil accepted orders may result in delisting.
- Food safety, licensing and hygiene compliance remain the merchant's obligation. Taxic is a transport and ordering platform, not the preparer of the goods.
6. Wallet, credits & cash-outs
- Store value, not a deposit. Taxic credit is prepaid value for use on the network. It bears no interest and is not a bank deposit.
- Reseller discount. Approved agents purchase credit in bulk at a 5% discount (for example R950 for R1 000 of credit) and distribute it at face value. The discount is the agent's margin.
- Dual-OTP verification. Cash-outs require a one-time PIN from the paying terminal and a second from the receiving terminal. Neither party can move a balance alone.
- Agent limits. New agents have a capped float; ceilings increase with settled trading history. Agent status may be withdrawn for non-delivery of credit.
- Cash-out routes. Balances may be exchanged for cash with an approved reseller, or transferred to eWallet, Mukuru or a bank account.
7. Custody & liability
Custody transfers at three logged points: Node A merchant to driver, Node B driver to partner hub, Node C hub or driver to customer via OTP.
- Loss or damage occurring after Node A and before the next recorded transfer is the driver's responsibility and is settled from the driver's wallet.
- Liability cap. Operator liability is capped at R500.00 per parcel, or the actual wholesale replacement cost of the goods, whichever is lower.
- Damage attributable to inadequate packaging sits with the merchant, not the driver.
- Taxic does not underwrite the goods. Optional transit cover may be offered separately; where it applies, its own terms govern.
- Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Consumer Protection Act.
8. Suspension & removal
Taxic may suspend or remove a participant, with notice where practicable, for: lapsed permits or licences, repeated route deviation, unrecorded custody movements, tampering with seals, fraudulent wallet activity, or conduct that endangers customers, passengers or other operators. Earnings already accrued remain payable, less any amount owing under a custody incident.
You may leave the network at any time. There is no lock-in, notice period or exit penalty.
9. Disputes
Custody and settlement disputes are decided on the recorded log and the sealed settlement record. Raise a dispute in the app or by writing to ops@taxic.co.za within seven days of the event. Where a dispute concerns route conduct, the relevant taxi association will be consulted. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
10. Changes to these terms
We will publish material changes on this page with a new version number and effective date, and notify affected participants in the app before they take effect. Continuing to carry parcels or list a shop after that date means you accept the updated terms.
